Washington, DC
Located in Washington DC, the Miner building boasts nearly 80,000 SF of educational space. It was initially founded as the school for Colored Girls, an institution of learning and training for young African American women founded by Mryrtilla Miner in 1851. The building houses a large gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, classrooms, teacher and staff offices and lounge areas. Care was taken by SRD to highlight existing architectural features, while simultaneously being cautious about budget and lead time. Simple but effective lighting strategies were implemented in addition to an updated lighting controls system.
